Question by DamaskDrum:

Will the seeds in one pear produce trees all of the same sex?

I know that pear trees come in male and female, and you have to have both to get fruit on the female tree. My question: Are the seeds in any one pear likely to be all one sex in that pear, or a random assortment? In other words, if I plant the seeds from one pear fruit, am I likely to get baby trees all of one sex, or a mix?
Thank you. That makes a lot more sense.

there is no such thing as male and female with pear TREES....pear FLOWERS are 'perfect', meaning there are male and female parts in every flower....... many pears are self-fruitful, meaning there is no need for a pollenator... but having a second tree does increase the fruit load, which may or may not be a good idea.....

"In general, a pollinator should be considered for all pear varieties, even though 'Kieffer' and 'Duchess' set good crops without pollinators. "
